I give this film ***** because of its thought provoking portrayal of James Nachtwey's experiences. I could never witness the events he has and survive as he has- I am far too sensitive. It is a balance of sensitivity and detachment that must allow him to maintain his sanity and create such amazing photos. The film's ability to show us the view from behind the camera is what makes it so unique and affective.
I would give this film 4 out 5 stars because of how James Nachwey showed his expierience when he was taking photos of the wars going on in other parts of the world. He overall did a great job on educating other people about people suffering from the costs of war by showing the photos he took when they were happening. There were very few times when I was watching the film and didn't understand what was going on. There was one part where he was taking photos of children serching throught trash because they were too poor for school.I didn't understand why they were doing that and he could've explained that part better. War photographer is a great film and I would highly suggest it to people who have'nt seen it.
I give this film 5 stars not only for it's validity but also it's ability to shine a new Light for those who have the misfortune of being unaware. Not only is James Nachwey a professional in his ambitions, he is something of a hero as he jeopardizes his life in the hopes of giving the victims of war, poverty and social injustice a voice to the outside world, and I am personally blessed to have been a part of the enlightening ripple effect thanks to this production and particular screening. Much appreciation to Ms. Ben-Hen & EMCC, the George Eastman House and all of our wonderful guests!
I would give the War Photographer 5 stars for it's refreshing outlook on James Nachtwey's journies within the world, capturing the most vulgar photographs, yet simultaneously displaying unconditional love and lightheartedness that is so commonly foreign to mankind in the 21st century. We presumably binge on outlet malls, multimedia, and food to fill ourselves with contentment. I commend Nachtwey's efforts in giving us a taste of how blessed we are to live in a well off country. I truly believe his work will make a difference.
I give this film 5 stars because it show how horrible war is and the struggles James Nachtwey has to deal with on a daily basis by making us look at it from every angle till we fully understand what James is striving to portray in his work. This movie made me think long after I had seen it.
I would say this film deserves 5 stars. It takes a lot of tolerence to deal with the tragic horrior that he witnessed. If it was so unsettling to just look at the pictures.. imagine actually experiencing it and to get the privillage to take the picture he had to gain there trust. This is definetly a very interesting intersting feild of work the need a lot of patience and hard work. It is very extrodinary how he can capture the pain of the people from a variety of different angles. James Nachtwey is a amazing War Phototgrapher!
sorry i havent been home and dident have a computer! nut i would give this film a 5 star because james Nachtwey is amazing at what he does. He dispays and amazing ounce of courage to show what its realy like in other countrys that people around here would never think is going on over there. He also shows how horribal things are and how he has to deal with it, and how much he risks his own life and i am just so glad that i had the oppertunity to go and see it at the GEH with ben-hen and so glad that she gave us the ability to see it.
I would give this movie 5 stars because of how Nachtwey shows the bad side of war through his pictures, proving that war is much more bad than good.I believe that you have to be very brave and determined to succeed in that field of photography.
I personally did not enjoy the movie. but i would give it a 5 star anyway because of what he did. He goes out to do dangerous things to show others what the world is really about. I like that, and the way he channels his emotions and just goes with things is amazing.
I would like to know more in-depth info on why you did not like the movie. It clearly was not about being entertained, yet you gave it a 5? This is a bit confusing.
I think the movie was very descriptive and interesting in its sight into the emotions that came with the remarkable and grim adventures Nachtwey embarked upon. Yet I would only give the film itself a 3.5 because I think they could have done better in terms of portraying the extent he goes to. I know Nachtwey has been on hundreds of shoots but here we only see a limited few, and it would have been cool to see more diversity in what his job entails.
I give the film 3 out of 5 stars. It was not bad, but to me it was not gripping enough. when I think back, I can't say i learned anything. It seemed to me more of shock factor with good intentions than anything else. Sure I understood that bad things happened, and I saw it as well. But I found that after all of that I still did not truly understand the issues.
I think the movie was really about what makes Nachtwey born to do what he does- not so much about the different "issues" he captured in the movie. There are plenty of movies about the issues he shows- but few that capture it from the perspective of a photojournalist and the delicate balance that exists in his world.
I give this film a 2 out of 5. The film hardly affected me, other than showing me shocking images. I don't feel that there was any merit other than shock value to most of the images shown. Despite the images, Nachtwey does a fine job with showing how balanced his life must be between his quiet domestic life and the shocking images of war.
I give this film a 4.5 out of 5 because James Nachtwey does a beautiful job in showing the harsh realties of the lives of people across the globe through the lens of his camera. He displays the hardships people face every single day on this earth due to poverty, war, disease, etc. I believe the film does a great job in implying a much deeper meaning the visual goriness but rather leaves an everlasting impression on suffering peoples lifestyles and leaves me and others that watched the film, hopefully, to appreciate the lifestyles we have and to appreciate how we live. The images of the family living in-between railroad tracks with a one armed and one legged father and cardboard atop rocks for beds will stick with me forever, and leave me to not take things for granted as I do without second thought. James Nachtwey is a brave, smart, and productive photojournalist with a purpose to his work, this a great film that will benefit everyone of its viewers.
I enjoyed the film, it's difficult to find films that leave an impact on you. James Nachtwey is a very intricate individual, for someone who sees and experiences the things that he has it makes you wonder if he was as reserved and stand back-ish before he started war photography or if it had left that impact on him. The movie really makes you less naive to what goes on around the world that we don't see, it definitely opened my eyes to it all. I have a great respect for him and his work, it not only tells a story, it raises awareness for the reality of the situation and it left me wanting to do more for the situation and with a great sense of empathy.
I gave this film a 4 out of 5. Some parts of the movie were too graphic and serious for me to enjoy. The movie really made me think more seriously about the world and it changed my opinion on a lot of things.
I enjoyed this movie a lot and would rate it a 4 out of 5. the reason why is because i loved how they show you these issues and conflicts around the world but in the prospective of the photo journalist. i just wish they would have talked more about Nachtwey like his past and stuff, but other than that it was a very powerful movie and i really enjoyed it
The movie showed how heart breaking war can be." War Photographer" portrayed what was happening in some countries that are at war. The movie showed bad parts of war like hunger and fires. War leads to lots of destruction and the movie displayed the negative impact living in countries that are at war. I sometimes have trouble going to this type of movie because I do not really understand a lot since I am not into war, but it was ok to watch. It was an informative documentary.
I would rate the film 4 out of 5 stars. I really did enjoy the movie but it was a lot more graphic than I had expected it to be. The issues in the countries that James Nachtwey had visited were absolutely heartbreaking but it's incredible that he can pull himself together enough to go and witness the experiences that those people live through their daily lives.
i thought that film was amazing and really showed that there are other problems going on around the world and we don't ever really know because no ones there to tell us about it and we shouldn't take things for granted as much as we do.
I would rate War Photographer a 4. I think it's very important that people see these types of things so they can appreciate what they have and see what is happening all over the world around them. I commend James Nachtwey for doing what he does. He exposes these problems in a very different way. Images are a lot more impactful than just an article you may read. Actually being able to see what goes on can make a huge difference. I also really enjoyed some of the small details such as the fact that you were looking through his camera. It felt like you were the one taking the picture, not James. I thought this was a very cool effect. I don't think the point of this movie was to be enjoyable, that part is pretty obvious but I still took my last star away for that. I think it was made beautifully and had a strong message but I don't like watching things like that. Although it was still very meaningful and a well made movie.
I am Ben-Hen. Lighthouse for many ships that pass my way. Hopefully I make their journey more focused and enlightened.
